Has anyone ever dyed their skin green or some other colour by bathing in fabric dye?
I want to try it for a festival I'm doing.
Is it harmful?
Love,

EDIT: I want to remain green for a week, which is why I'm looking for more that something I could do every day.

Fabric dye...
In general is bad for skin contact, and you could end up with rashes or skin burns (Or as one website I just googled mentioned, 5 headed babies..O_o)...I would try making a cool-aid mix, or just straight up using Food Dye.March 18 2008, 14:49:02 UTC 4 years ago
Re: Fabric dye...
Oooh, food dye. I didn't think about that. That seems a LOT less harmful.March 18 2008, 16:08:54 UTC 4 years ago
Re: Fabric dye...
Be careful with green food dye, if you put too much in food, it can cause loose bowels, so I can only imagine from absorbing it all over your body........March 18 2008, 17:51:06 UTC 4 years ago
Re: Fabric dye...
I tried to use green food dye once. I was young and could do it better now, but still. It didn't go on evenly very well, it was very difficult to not look like I had gangreen or something. Then it didn't come all the way off for a couple of weeks.March 18 2008, 14:45:10 UTC 4 years ago
Try the Ben Nye liquid makeup, or airbrushing. Those stay on for an entire day through all sorts of inclement weather. I wear all sorts of theatrical makeup for various events, including 10-day festivals, and I would definitely not recommend that.

I was thinking about getting some cake make-up and just doing parts of me, like the sides of my stomach and face and some of my arms, and blending like there's no tomorrow.

The Aqua Paint is fantastic. Since it works a lot like water colors, it blends well and dries completely. It also lasts a looooong time.

If you know somebody with an airbrush that's going to be the most efficient and cost-effective way to go.. alcohol-based cake makeup is harder to find and pretty expensive. You want the stuff they do the semi-permanent airbrush tattoos with, like you see at festivals - tattoo ink. You can get it from Temptu but I think that's a bit high-end.. shop around if you're not going for "professional quality". Looks like Temptu has a cake makeup too, their "dura" line, but you'd need a whole lot to get full body coverage.
I did an underwater shoot with this stuff once. It really doesn't come off. :) picture here, yay!

Yeah, Mama was hurting and couldn't drive. :( She's been having a rough time lately. We need Fairie Fest to be here to brighten her spirit!

Is there any other way to apply it besides airbrush?

(technique tip: dab with the sponges, rather than swiping. dab dab dab dab dab. Keeps the streaks away and makes for easier blending)

I totaly agree wtih the person above me to use a alcohol based makeup. I go to make up school and we are using the tattoo pallettes (like skin illustrator) and the rubber mask grease paints and when i draw all over myself i will go to bed and it will still be there still as bright as the day b efore. if you rub it it dosent flake away either. the only thing is you have to remove it with alcohol so after use moisturizer if you have issues with dry skin X_X.
Mehron rubber mask grease paint isnt too expensive but you will have to add alcohol to it and you dont get alot so it isnt that great a deal. I dont know what kind of make up those dura palettes are but im curious if they are a cream makeup or if they are more like the tattoo palettes they have on that site. If they are more like the tattoo palettes then they are very hard and you use alcohol on them like watercolors. The problem with them is they dry up fast and its hard to get the same color twice. If you get that kind of makeup which is like the hard color cake then try using 99% hand sanitizer. It works with some tattoo palettes and it will make the palette stay wet longer. If you can go to a pro make up store like somewhere that sells ben nye and kryolyn there is a product that makes the tattoo palettes last longer but i dont remember the name X_X they use it in tv shows and movoies though.
Anyhow Good Luck ;) and dont roll around in clothing dye >.> Im gonna be bad and say maybe a natural hair color like the kind you use for bright colors might work too <.<

You might want to try both the mehron and the dura make up. you could use the dura for more the whole boddy and the mehron for the face. The dura color is activated with alcohol so it burns your nose mouth and eyes if you use it around those areas or breath it in. Mehron rubber mask grease paints, even though you add alcohol to thin them out, they smell like halloween clown paint. I think mehron comes off easier too so it would be better to use around the face and the pigment is lovely :)

the green is very green. I dyed my daughter's ahir and it stayed on my skin for quite a while- I had to scrub to get it off after only 5 minutes.
I would not recommend it on your face- but the not so sensitive parts maybe? And you have to make sure you have no allergies.
altho with the amount it would take I'd probably stick with the super awesome body paint.

sea sponges =)
i hear they're the best for coverage... dampened with some alcohol and used with the alcohol-based paint, you'd be unstoppable!
