Halloween is quickly approaching, and I have plans to dress as a faun. Mostly, they're just plans because I've been so wrapped up in life these last couple of weeks. Anyway, here are my ideas:
I'm going to purchase faun ears on eBay. I also want to buy some sort of metal top, maybe like a belly-dancer's. I have to get some polymer clay for my horns as well. I'm thinking of getting some (faux?) fur-boots (as furry as possible), and making a cap out of wire netting sheets, paper mache, and black paint for my hooves (last year, I did a similar construction, only it was a crocodile bill with polymer clay teeth).
Now, here's where I need a little guidance:
the legs. I want to get the backwards bend in the knees, like in the following link:

I was thinking of constructing something of the same wire netting and attaching it to a pair of leggings or something. Over that, I'd put a layer of faux fur. I was wondering if anyone had attempted (completed) a similar project, or if they have any better ideas. The image looks like the tail-end of a horse costume, but I still think there is a more creative way of accomplishing the look I want. Maybe I'll post a sketch when I get a minute.
Thank you!

I guess I just want to know how comfortable the costume is. I'm not planning on any heels this time, because I plan on romping around in the forest a little. Do you have to walk a little funny to make the legs look a little more believable?
Padding sounds happier than wire framing :)

here are a few process pics, i'm sure you can figure out from there
then cover as desired
uhm, I would suggest using a boot tight to the leg, rather than the crappy 80's boot i used, but hindsight is 20/20 and cheap sale boots are cheap!

I can tell you that walking on a 2x4 on a platform high heeled boot with no heel is, for me, very tricky and uncomfortable. There is no tromping or frolicking, hehe. I can walk okay but it takes work, I stumble occasionally on uneven terrain, and I have to take the boots off after about 2 hours, or at least take a long break. So much fun though! Thanks for letting me show off again. ;)

Hope that helps! If you have any digitigrade questions, you might want to post over at the LJ Fursuit community - they've got a lot of entries and are very willing to help out with this sort of thing:

I really like the look of the heel-boot hoof, but I don't think the occasion calls for it (walking in the woods) I may make them later, though.
I'll try to keep in mind to make a tutorial for the whole costume.
Curious: does anyone "make" time to wear this suit? What other occasions can you don something like this than Halloween?

Sorry, it's the anatomy scholar in me.
But otherwise I would personally love to make satyr/faun legs for myself, but the lack of time and funds have always hindered me. I can't wait to see what you come up with. Be sure to post pictures. And remember that in progress pictures are always helpful.
