Someone asked how to make stuff like this for a school Renaissance Faire...here are some pointers. Remember these are not too difficult but take a small while to do in quantity. They are not very extravagant and breath-taking, but good ideas for the school Renaissance Faires.
head wreaths
Take a flexible wire (the kind with that ugly green coating) and buy a bunch of those tiny silk flowers at a craft store (with the little flexible stems.) Buy some ribbon in whichever colors you would like. Make the wire into a circle, for the ends bend them in a loop and connect. Wrap the flowers either all together for a really flowery effect, or separated some around the wire. Now, wrap your ribbon in a circular type way all the way around the wire in between the flowers to cover it and make it satiny looking. Just secure the ribbon at the back, knot if you like, and leave streams of ribbon hanging down the back. Voila!
Wands
The easiest way, and cheapest is to use cardboard. Draw 2 stars to the size/shape of your liking on the cardboard (they should be exactly the same, you might cut one and then use it as a stencil.) Now buy some long thin wooden sticks. Wrap those with ribbon. Now, glue the two stars to either side of the top of the stick (glue all around the edges of the stars so that they will stay on the stick good.) Use that paint on glue, and cover one star. Buy different colors of glitter (not the mixed kind...separate colors) and place your wand on a piece of newspaper or something…sprinkle the glitter all over the star. Allow to dry, then flip over and repeat the glue and glitter process. Shake off the excess glitter. This could take a while to do a bunch of them.
Wings
The feathered wings like mine are easy but not enough to do more than a few pair per weekend. If you still wanna know how, reply and I’ll tell ya. A lot of people use wire that can be found at home depot. They shape their wings, and then you can use colored cellophane and wrap it and glue it to the shape of the wings. Some people also use sheer material and cover the wing, sewing the edges under around the wire to attach it. You can then use acrylic paint to paint on designs, or buy that glitter hair spray and spray them to make them glittery. I used elastic (comes on a spool like ribbon, you can get it by the yard) and I sewed one end to the wing and then looped it and sewed the other end lower. This works best if someone holds your wings to your back and lets you measure the length you want the strap, and mark where to sew it. Once they are sewn you should be finished.
I love Renaissance Faires in case you didn’t notice. I just moved, and there’s a big one coming up in my ‘hood. I am wearing my black feather wings, and black corseted satin ball gown. That’s my costume until I have money for the chemise, petticoat, and bodice so on so forth. Hope I helped.
